This wonderful guitar has been setup by our in house luthier. It is practically mint and has been lovingly cared for with OHSC. One switch was changed to have a blend control but that has been deactivated due to perceived tone loss. All knobs, pickups and switching of pickups work great. Weighs: 7 lb 13 oz Built May of 2010 in Japan.
This is G6120-1959LTV from the Gretsch Professional Collection. The original 1959 Gretsch 6120 is among the most collectable guitars in the world and generally considered to be the “holy grail” of the Chet Atkins model guitars. By 1959 all the western appointments of the 6120 had been stripped away and a cleaner mid-century modern look was offered. Only the trademark horseshoe on the headstock remained of the cowboy motif. The all new Filter’Tron pickups were standard issue on the guitar as well as the new “tone switch” circuitry and zero fret. What would be perhaps the most significant change to the 6120 was an unseen feature. What Gretsch would coin Trestle Bracing replaced the dual tone bar bracing of the previous models. The Trestle bracing is essentially 2 upside down “U” shaped wooden supports that run from the neck joint area to the bridge. This bracing adds mass and stability under the bridge and electronics dramatically increasing sustain and rejecting feedback while still retaining the classic Gretsch hollow body vibe. This feature set was short lived because by 1962, Gretsch had introduced the ElectroTone thin double cut body on the 6120 which would remain until the 6120 was discontinued in the 1970’s.
Those features are recreated and even improved upon here in the new G6120-1959LTV. This is one of the top of the line 6120’s currently offered by Gretsch. It recreates the look, sound, and feel of an original ’59 but with modern dependability and durability. This is the quintessential finger-picking electric. This is a truly high end arch top that sounds just as it should and plays amazingly well. The voice of the guitar is clear and true with excellent tight bass response and crystal clear treble. The humbucking TV Jones Classic pickups offer very low noise and sound fantastic clean but handle quite a bit of overdrive as well! The guitar is well suited for a multitude of playing styles from jazz to blues and rock .This guitar is pure Gretsch quality with top notch fretwork and neck angle providing the perfect playability that the Gretsch Professional Collection is known for. If you’re looking for truly classic and authentic Gretsch looks and sound you must try this guitar!
